Liverpool backed to sign Christian Eriksen as Tottenham star’s contract runs down

Christian Eriksen would fit nicely into Liverpool’s midfield.

That is the opinion of former Liverpool and Wales striker Dean Saunders.

Eriksen is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the upcoming season.

The Dane has been linked with a move to both Manchester United and Real Madrid.

But Saunders admits Eriksen would be a good signing for Liverpool.

The Reds were criticised at some points last season for not providing enough goals from midfield positions.

Eriksen scored 10 times for Spurs in 51 games last term, including vital goals in the Champions League.

And on talkSPORT Saunders claimed the 27-year-old would provide the Liverpool midfield with what they’ve been missing.

“[They could] spend it maybe,” Saunders said of Liverpool’s transfer budget.

“I think Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team, somebody like Eriksen.

“That type of player who will make their midfield a bit more productive.”

Earlier this summer Eriksen sparked rumours over his future at Tottenham.

The former Ajax No 10 hinted that he wanted to leave north London after six years.

“I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new,” Eriksen told Ekstra Bladet.

“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham – I will not be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.

“I hope there will be a resolution during the summer. That’s the plan.

“In football you do not know when a resolution will happen.

“It can happen anytime. Everyone wants the best to it to happen as soon as possible, but in football takes things time.”
